Park City Community Foundation Granted $125,000 to Three Finalists During Its Annual Women’s Giving Fund Celebration and Celebrated Ten Years of Impact

Article by Megan Fleming Hytjan for PCCF (July 10, 2024)

Park City, Utah (Wednesday, July 10, 2024) – Park City Community Foundation announced today that the winner of its 2024 Women’s Giving Fund grant is The People’s Health Clinic. Members of Women’s Giving Fund voted between three local organizations for the annual high-impact grant, and The People’s Health Clinic was selected to receive this year’s grant of $75,000. The other two finalists, Mountain Mediation Center and Summit Community Gardens + EATS, each received $25,000.

In total, a record amount of $125,000 was awarded to the three finalists at the annual Women’s Giving Fund Grant Celebration, an increase from the $100,000 that was granted last year.

After the winner was announced, an anonymous donor, who was moved by the power of collective giving, came forward and offered an additional $50,000 match to support each of the runner up organizations ($25,000 each). Every donation made to the Women’s Giving Fund between now and July 31, 2024 will be matched with a donation to Summit Community Gardens + EATS and Mountain Mediation Center. Thank you to this generous donor for supporting Women’s Giving Fund and our grantees.

“Thanks to our 2,200 women+ members who are dedicated to supporting local women and children, we have been able to increase the grant amount every year,” said Rebecca Blanchette, Member Services Manager at Park City Community Foundation. “We are humbled by how much Women’s Giving Fund has grown in the past few years, and we have big dreams for what this powerful group will accomplish.”

This is the Women’s Giving Fund tenth year of giving. As an initiative of Park City Community Foundation, Women’s Giving Fund has worked to benefit the lives of women+ and children in Park City and Summit County since its inception. The group includes over 2,200 local women, girls, non-binary, and gender-fluid individuals. Group members meet throughout the year and have collectively granted $508,000 since 2015.

The People’s Health Clinic will use the $75,000 grant to provide urgent reproductive health needs for uninsured community members and improve health outcomes for vulnerable women and children. The organization will do this through family planning education, contraception access, prenatal care, and postpartum support. The organization also received the Women’s Giving Fund annual grant in 2019.

“Each year, our Women’s Giving Fund Steering Committee has the privilege and very difficult task of selecting the finalists. This year we had 22 organizations apply, three amazing finalists, and our members voted to decide who would ultimately receive the high-impact grant,” said Anna Frachou, Chair of the Women’s Giving Fund Steering Committee. “These nonprofits are addressing critical needs in our community and making a tremendous impact locally. We are proud to bring together a powerful group of women+ to support such important organizations.”

Previous organizations that have received funds from Women’s Giving Fund include PC Tots, The Hope Alliance, Jewish Family Service, Peace House, Holy Cross Ministries, and others.

Park City Community Foundation hosted a Grant Celebration at Red Pine Lodge for its Women’s Giving Fund members on July 10, where members celebrated ten years of impact and announced the winner. The event sponsor was Park City Mountain Resort, supported through Vail Resorts EpicPromise, and over 300 women+ attended.

Women’s Giving Fund is an initiative of Park City Community Foundation that includes 2,200 members who make high-impact grants to help local women+ and children in need. Women become members for life by making a $1,000 contribution to the fund, which is endowed by the Community Foundation and provides grants to local nonprofits from its earnings in perpetuity. Women can also nominate someone to receive an honorary membership.
All of the nearly 2,200 members of the Women’s Giving Fund can vote to decide which community group receives the top prize. This year, the group will give away three grants totaling $125,000.

Park City Community Foundation Member Services Manager Rebecca Blanchette says the grants steering committee received 22 applications and narrowed the field to three finalists. Of those, one will be awarded the high-impact grant of $75,000.

“We have made videos with each of those finalists, Blachette said. “And you can view those on our website. The three finalists are the People’s Health Clinic, Mountain Mediation Center, and Summit Community Gardens/EATS.”

If it wins, People’s Health Clinic will provide reproductive care for uninsured community members, including family planning, contraception as well as prenatal and postpartum care.

The Mountain Mediation Center plans to provide low-income families with services to navigate housing stability and landlord/tenant mediation programs to prevent eviction and homelessness, if it wins.

And Summit Community Gardens would use the money to instill lifelong healthy eating habits and provide fresh fruits and vegetables to about 2,000 local school children through cooking, nutrition and gardening programs.

The deadline to vote is Mon., July 8 and a grant awards celebration is scheduled for Wed., July 10 at Red Pine Lodge.

To be eligible to vote, Women’s Giving Fund members make a $1,000 gift to the grant fund. New members are eligible right away, even if they pay through a monthly recurring donation.

Blanchette says members are encouraged to RSVP for next week’s grant celebration.

“We charge $25 per ticket and that is helping to cover the cost of the event,” she said. “Vail is an incredible sponsor of all of our work, and they sponsor most of that event, but as you know, the cost of labor and food have gone up and so we don’t want that to come out of the fund. And so, we’ve just asked members to do $25. There’s an open bar, great food. A good time.”

The two-runner up organizations will each receive $25,000.

Women’s Giving Fund grant finalists announced; winner will be announced July 10

Article by Park Record Staff (June 24, 2024)

Park City Community Foundation today announced the three finalists for its annual Women’s Giving Fund grant: People’s Health Clinic, Mountain Mediation Center and Summit Community Gardens + EATS.

The finalists will be awarded a total of $125,000 at the annual Grant Celebration on July 10, with one organization getting the high-impact grant and the other two receiving smaller gifts. Women’s Giving Fund members are asked to cast their vote for the high-impact grant now through July 8.

Additionally, Women’s Giving Fund members can hear directly from the three finalists and ask questions on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Park City Library in Room 201.

The 2024 grant finalists have submitted proposals that will positively impact women+ and children. If selected for the high-impact grant, each of the finalists has proposed a project:

People’s Health Clinic will provide urgent reproductive health needs for uninsured community members and improve health outcomes for vulnerable women and children through family planning education, contraception access, prenatal care, and postpartum support.

Mountain Mediation Center will provide low-income families with services to navigate housing stability and family conflicts. This will happen through landlord/tenant and domestic mediation programs that prevent eviction and homelessness and provide a path forward for women facing divorce.

Summit Community Gardens + EATS will instill lifelong healthy eating habits and  provide  one-to-two servings of fruits and vegetables per lesson to more than 2,000 local school-aged children through hands-on cooking, nutrition and gardening programs.

Members can vote and learn about each of the finalist’s grant proposals at https://parkcitycf.org/votewgf/. Voting will close on July 8, and the high-impact grantee will be announced at the annual grant celebration on July 10 at Red Pine Lodge at The Canyons. Park City Mountain supported though Vail Resorts EpicPromise is sponsoring the event.

Since its inception, Park City Community Foundation’s Women’s Giving Fund has worked to benefit the lives of women+ and children in Park City and Summit County, according to a press release from the group, which includes over 2,100 local women, girls, and non-binary, and gender-fluid individuals. Members meet throughout the year at various gatherings and have collectively granted $383,000 to make a positive difference in the community, the group reported. The annual grant amount has continued to grow over the Women’s Giving Fund’s 10-year history. This year’s total of $125,000 is the most the group has ever given out, increasing its impact by $25,000 from last year.

“We are thrilled to have three wonderful nonprofits offering critical support to women+ and children in Summit County,” said Anna Frachou, Women’s Giving Fund Steering Committee Chair. “In the United States, the Women & Girls Index has shown that only 2% of charitable giving goes to organizations focused on women and girls. We know the generative and positive benefits of uplifting women, and we are grateful for the opportunity to amplify the impact of these great organizations with the collective funds from many passionate local women+.”

Women’s Giving Fund is an initiative of Park City Community Foundation that includes nearly 2,200 members who make high-impact grants to help local women+ and children in need.
The finalists will be awarded a total of $125,000 at the annual Grant Celebration on July 10, with one organization getting the high-impact grant and the other two receiving smaller gifts.
Since its inception, Park City Community Foundation’s Women’s Giving Fund has worked to benefit the lives of women+ and children in Park City and Summit County. The group includes over 2,100 local women, girls, and those who identify as women. Members meet throughout the year at various gatherings and have collectively granted $383,000 to make a positive difference in the community. The annual grant amount has continued to grow over the Women’s Giving Fund’s ten-year history. This year’s total of $125,000 is the most the group has ever given out, increasing its impact by $25,000 from last year.

Building Inclusive Communities: The Role of Mountain Mediation Center

Article by Sabrina Ruiz Monroy for UCLI (June 17, 2024)

In our joint endeavor to foster equity and inclusion, UCLI and Mountain Mediation have been collaborating. The impact of Mountain Mediation’s distinctive approach, which focuses on community cohesion across Summit and Wasatch counties, is truly remarkable. Their diverse strategy, encompassing mediation services, landlord-tenant programs, communications training, and Community Conversations, has significantly bolstered the stability and harmony of our community. Notably, MMC’s comprehensive eviction diversion program is a testament to their unwavering commitment to ensuring the local workforce remains housed, further highlighting its unique approach.

Mountain Mediation’s outreach strategy is comprehensive, involving partnerships with over 15 community centers and collaborations with organizations like the Christian Center of Park City’s mobile food pantries. These partnerships deliver crucial education and resources in the parking lots of local apartment complexes, aiming to educate tenants and prevent conflict when possible.

Recognizing the powerful role of effective communication in creating healthy communities and trusting relationships, Mountain Mediation offers tailored communication training. This training is designed to address and improve both organizational and personal communication needs, demonstrating the tangible impact of their programs.

UCLI is proud to support MMC’s internship program for the third year in a row through a monetary donation, which directly benefits interns like Lance Rothchild, and supports the rising generation of students with an interest in the law. We also want to express our deep appreciation for Gretchen Lee, a pivotal contact who not only facilitates our collaboration but also plays a significant role in the success of our partnership. Her dedication and hard work are truly instrumental, and we are deeply grateful for them! Additionally, volunteers form the cornerstone of MMC’s outreach efforts, contributing their time and skills.

As we continue our partnership with Mountain Mediation, UCLI not only celebrates our shared commitment to empowering individuals, fostering understanding, and building resilient communities but also renews our dedication to this noble cause. Together, we can make a difference! Check out Mountain Mediation Center’s website here.

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Rotary awarded over $36,000 in grants to nine local nonprofits at the annual Grants Luncheon Celebration on March 19.

The funds for the Community Grants are raised each year at the club’s Miner’s Day Running of the Balls and the Miner’s Day Parade. Ember Conley, Park City Rotary president, welcomed the crowd, noting that the grant program is a critical piece to the organization’s service.

“Our club members participate in local and international service projects,” she said. “And being able to support the work of organizations that align with the mission of Rotary International is an extension of the service we do together.”

She added the grants presented at the event were for local projects in alignment with Rotary International’s Areas of Focus. Those include eradicating polio, promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, saving mothers and children, Supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment.

Grants Chair Steven Yapp noted the club received a record-breaking 42 applications, and the committee appealed to the board for a 10-percent increase in grant funds to make nine awards rather than the seven that met the original budget. “We have incredible organizations in this town that do essential work to support our community’s residents,” Yapp said. “It’s a privilege to be able to participate with funding.”

Bari Nan Rothchild, emcee and a member of the grants committee, noted the luncheon was an opportunity for Rotary members to celebrate the work of area nonprofits and perhaps identify new opportunities to engage with their work.

“There is a ripple effect as each of these projects is completed,” Rothchild said. “We can see the immediate impact—and then imagine a community member who benefits from a program we hear about today, one day creating an initiative of their own.”

Article by Park Record Staff for the Park Record (March 20, 2024)

Park City Rotary this week awarded over $36,000 in grants to nine local nonprofits at the club’s annual Grants Luncheon Celebration.

The funds for the Community Grants are raised each year at the club’s Miner’s Day Running of the Balls and the Miner’s Day Parade.

Ember Conley, Park City Rotary president, welcomed the crowd, noting the grant program is one of several critical pieces to the organization’s service.

“Our club members participate in local and international service projects,” she said, “and being able to support the work of organizations that align with the mission of Rotary International is an extension of the service we do together.”

Conley added that the grants presented at the event were for local projects in alignment with Rotary International’s Areas of Focus. Those include eradicating polio, promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies and protecting the environment.

Grants Chair Steven Yapp noted the club received a record-breaking 42 applications, and the committee appealed to the board for a 10 percent increase in grant funds to make nine awards, rather than the seven that met the original budget.

“We can see the immediate impact — and then imagine a community member who benefits from a program we hear about today, one day creating an initiative of their own.”

Grants were awarded to the following organizations:

Summit County Community for Children’s Justice identified a need for better soundproofing in the Children’s Justice Center’s interview rooms so that ambient noise will not overpower children’s soft voices in forensic interviews with therapists, victim’s advocates, DCFS and law enforcement to discover facts based on a report of child abuse.

Echo Community & Historical Organization will create and install new exhibits for the historic Echo Church (built in 1876).
Mountain Mediation will provide two free community trainings in Let’s Talk, a skills-based communication training program. That program, designed by Park City Leadership Class 29, uses proven techniques to improve engagement in the workplace, at community meetings and at home.

Recycle Utah received funding to expand its 5th Grade Sustainability Festival at McPolin Elementary School. Scheduled for May 29, this year’s program will include students from Parley’s Park and Trailside elementary schools. The event will engage students, industry professionals and community members in meaningful dialogue and hands-on learning experiences about pressing environmental issues.

Park City READS will use its grant to acquire Tools of Dyslexia, a screening system for the organization’s Certified Dyslexia Advocates will use to help families identify reading deficiencies in children as young as 5 years old.

SOS Outreach provides outdoor education and mentoring program for underserved youth. Participants learn to ski or ride with guides who help them establish a sense of belonging in spaces they may not have otherwise accessed. Additionally, SOS kids learn from mentors how to navigate everything from job interviews to higher education. Their grant funding will provide scholarships to ensure access for all eligible participants.

They provide access to nutritious foods as a means of disease prevention in underserved communities.
Summit County Clubhouse holds Education and Employment Dinners for its members who are working or studying during the day while managing their mental health challengers.
PARK CITY, Utah — The Annual Happiest Hour reception hosted by the Promontory Foundation took place on August 30, where local nonprofits were honored with a total of over $370K in awards.

Since its establishment in 2006, the Promontory Foundation has allocated over $2.1 million to local non-profits, meeting their matching 2 to 1 requirements. This has resulted in an impressive impact of more than $6.65 million.

There are a lot of great causes out there, but we have narrowed our focus to those primary sectors. We had 47 applications this year, which was a new record.”

The Promontory Foundation’s mission is to address the Park City Community’s unmet needs, specifically in the Arts, Culture, and Social Services.

“What differentiates Summit County from other western mountain towns is the intersection between arts, culture, and recreation,” Jocelyn Scudder said.

In collaboration with the Utah Office of Tourism and representatives of local government and non-profit agencies, PCCVB executed a Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s (GSTC) Destination Assessment followed by a 22-person Stewardship Council worked to ensure the STP lined up with residents, business owners, organizations, and stakeholder values and concerns.

The long-term STP is comprised of stewardship principles and objectives that were framed around Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) defined by the United Nations:

Cultivate local pride and respect for the Park City/Summit County experience

Implement sustainable transportation, housing, water, energy, and waste management policies and initiatives

Protect and manage our natural environment to enable sustainable outdoor recreation

Ensure the long-term resilience of the Park City/Summit County economy

Equalize the economic benefits and mitigate impacts of the visitor economy

Leverage messaging and programming to accelerate sustainable tourism

Foster the development and management of Park City/Summit County’s art and culture tourism assets

Forty-two organizations applied for the Sustainable Tourism Grant. Among the recipients was the Alf Engen Ski Museum, which plans to implement an accessibility plan and hire a professional museum evaluator to evaluate the effectiveness of accessibility additions and changes for each exhibit to be more inclusive to all visitors.

“Arts, culture and history feed into tourism in a positive intrinsic as well as economic benefit,” said the museum’s Executive Director, Connie Nelson. “Museums such as the Alf Engen Ski Museum and Eccles 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum are invaluable assets to the cultural landscape of Park City and Summit County. This is demonstrated by the over 475,000 visitors to the museum in 2022.”

The Sustainable Tourism Grant has funded the Summit Arts Showcase in Oakley, the Latino Arts Festival, and Art on the Trails in 2023/2024.

“Investing in Arts & Culture improves our overall quality of life in Summit County,” said Executive Director of the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County Jocelyn Scudder. “The Arts & Culture assets in our county are what set us apart from other mountain communities, and makes our sense of place truly magical. The events that are being partially supported by the Sustainable Tourism Grant provide a community gathering space for residents and visitors to connect, feel inspired, start new conversations, learn something new, and feel a sense of belonging. They promote social cohesion—something that many of us crave post-pandemic.”
